Austin Fashion Week 2014: ‘Be A Kid Again’ With Crowned Bird’s Newest Collection

image

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably already know that local designer Priscilla Barroso is one of my favorite people on the planet, and I am in constant admiration of her youthful and vivacious line, Crowned Bird. Priscilla’s mind and eye for fashion is always in the future, always looking for what’s next, and doing everything she can to get there before everyone else. While she does have heavy retro and vintage inspiration in her designs and daily thought, her bright color palette and unique tailoring skills combine to create pieces that are unlike anything that has been seen before.

Her newest collection called ‘BAKA’ or ‘Be A Kid Again’ has a great sense of whimsy and playfulness that makes most other garments look boring in comparison. On her recent trip to Japan, while describing her ideas for her newest collection to locals there, Priscilla discovered that the word ‘baka’ actually means ‘foolish’ in Japanese, as serendipity would have it. BAKA inspires us to let go of our conceptions of normal ‘adult’ fashion and travel into the magical and light-hearted world of Crowned Bird.

Austin Fashion Week 2013: Wednesday Night Runway Shows

image

Last Wednesday’s Austin Fashion Week runway shows started off strong with a second look at 12 year old designer Isabella Rose Taylor's designs. The “blood, sweat, and glitter” put into Isabella's collection set the bar for the night high, and the collections that came after her's did not live up to the standard set by this young designer.

BikeBot Fash Bash: A Bicycle Fashion Show!

Last Saturday at The Pine Street Station was an unconventional fashion show (my favorite kind) where models didn’t strut down the runway, but instead, rode bikes!  The first ever Fash Bash was produced by Bikebot, an environmental organization dedicated to encouraging the nation to ride bikes more, and BikeyMeLikey, a self-proclaimed “bicycle fashionista.”  Proceeds for the event went to cycling advocacy organizations, 1Love Bicycle Tour and HOPE LIKES BIKES With tickets going for $20 a pop ($25 at the door), I must admit I was expecting there to be a little more in the areas of musical entertainment and vendors, however, there was an almost endless supply of free whisky from Wiser’s Whisky and beer from Real Ale.  Pair that alcohol with beautiful babes and Baldwins on bikes from the Bicycle Sports Shop wearing clothing from SoLa and the Psychlist, and you’ve got a show most cycling Austinites can’t resist.

Strut 5.12 2012: Behind The Scenes

This year, I was asked to model in the now annual Strut 5.12 Fashion Show.  Strut 5.12 is an “ATX fusion” produced by MKV Productions.  The event features several local vendors and artists as well as a silent auction.  All proceeds from the auction went to CapCity Kids.

This year’s fashion show featured clothing from Spring Frost, Linda Asaf Designs, St. Thomas, Dekla, Capra & Cavelli, 81 Poppies, and jewelry from Sugar Gay Isber.  All looks for the night were styled by local wardrobe stylist, Leonardo D’Almagro.

I was able to capture some behind the scenes photos of some of my fellow models getting their hair done by Blo Blow Dry Bar and make-up by Rae Cosmetics.  See more photos below!

Event Spotlight: So F*ing Haute: The Premier Champagne Derelicts Fashion Show at Hush

So F*ing Haute was so f*ing hot! Hush was packed last night with fashion fanatics fanning their slightly glistening faces at the premier fashion show put on by stylish bloggers Hunter Lohse and Jenny Woys a.k.a. The Champagne Derelicts.  The heat really turned up when the models stepped out on the runway.  Not only did Lohse and Woys present looks that night, but so did Gallery D, Charm School Vintage, Dog + Pony, Black Swan Theory, and Tracy Tenpenny Design.
