Put a Crowned Bird On It: Priscilla Barroso debuts her ‘Dream Pop’ Collection at Austin Fashion Week 2013
"I design for how I want the world to dress," said Crowned Bird designer Priscilla Barroso as we were walking back to her car after the Fashionably Pink Fashion Show a few weeks ago. “Fashion is my fantasy. I want to make it a reality by dressing the world.”
If I could live in the head of any local designer, I’d choose Priscilla’s. The dreamy retro-inspired colorscape that she conjures up and projects into her designs is a fashion-forward reality that I want to be a part of. In fact, her unstoppable imagination earned her a spot as a contestant on season 2 of NBC’s Fashion Star, but she was kicked off after just a few weeks for having a vision that was “too specific,” according to the judges. In my opinion however, her audience is made up of the current taste-makers, trendsetters, and future of the fashion world, so if that is who she is “specifically” designing for, then she’s hit the nail on the head.
Let me be honest with you - the only show I came and stayed for on the second night of Austin Fashion Week runway shows was Megan Summerville’s. As soon as the last of her last hunky heartthrobs and vintage vixens strutted off the runway, I was out the door too.
